Archangel

Designed for durability, sustainability, endurance, and affordability the Archangel was conceived to execute a variety of missions at a very low cost in support of border security, counterinsurgency, counterterrorism, counterdrug, and counter-piracy operations. Its success in austere environments, ability to carry a variety of precision guided munitions and sensors and rapid deployment set the precedent for US Special Operations Command’s new Armed Overwatch aircraft.

Used in recent low intensity conflicts throughout the Middle East and North Africa, Archangel has proven itself as a versatile ground attack platform that fuses aircraft, crew, sensors, and weapons with long duration on-station times. Archangel seamlessly flows between the Find, Fix, and Finish tasks on station, capable of employing GBU-12/58 Laser Guided Bombs, AGM-114 Hellfire, and CIRIT 2.75” Laser Guided Rockets. In addition to special operations direct support missions, Archangel is perfectly suited to Strike Coordination and Reconnaissance (SCAR), Forward Air Controller (Airborne) (FAC(A)), Base Defense, and Convoy Escort missions.

Affordable

Unlike other aircraft, the Archangel was designed to be a very affordable capability with low acquisition cost and a typical flying hour cost of less than $1000.

The performance envelope within which this aircraft operates does not require an ejection seat, helping to keep acquisition, maintenance, and training costs down. Additionally, the aircraft is relatively simple to maintain. Engine, avionics, and mission systems are easy to access and maintain. The aircraft can operate from unimproved strips and fly at speeds and altitudes optimized for target location, identification, and precision strike.

Flexible

Having a fixed conventional landing gear configuration, the Archangel can operate from unimproved fields and is well suited for forward arming and refueling in austere, transitory environments in support of tactical operations.

The aircraft is easy to maintain and able to conduct combat operations under harsh conditions. Archangel does not require any external launch and recovery systems and the aircrew can accomplish unassisted rearming of weapons like laser guided missiles.

The Archangel is uniquely equipped with a high performance EO/IR reconnaissance and targeting capability combining a suite of precision strike weapons that can execute strike missions with low collateral damage against both moving and fixed targets. It can precisely deliver 2.75” (70mm) Laser guided missiles, Hellfire AGM-114 missiles, GBU-58 and GBU-12 Paveway II laser guided bombs. With six wing store stations carrying weapons, the Archangel provides the crew with the station loadout options to engage a broad spectrum of both soft and hard targets.

Easy to operate and maintain, the Archangel is a combat proven platform with the United Arab Emirates Air Force & Air Defense.
